Beyond the Manawall
A huge, impenetrable barrier of pure magic that encircles and encloses Tere Archaea, the Manawall has been present for known history, and at least several thousand years. Its purpose and function are entirely unknown, though magical researchers from the great colleges in Tel Minaret have found a seeming correlation between its magic and that which seems to pervade the Devilmaw and Crimsonite itself. All attempts to date to breach the Manawall have failed, as it is apparently completely impervious to any assault, whether physical or magical. Even Queen Meriel Khoroushi’s legendary sword, forged from an alloy of Crimsonite, has failed to alter it in any way. Recently, however, a mysterious traveler who goes by the name of KARZAK has arrived in Tere Archaea, and claims to be able to create a hole in the Manawall. For reasons unknown to the general public, the Queen believes him, and it is for this purpose that she held the recent contest, to select by trial those who will be her agents in whatever lands exist outside the Wall’s borders.
Visually, the Manawall appears to be a shimmering presence in the air surrounding and above the kingdom, almost, but not quite transparent. Huge, slow pulses of bright energy regularly travel through the wall, outlining it in the sky and illuminating Tere Archaea, providing a system of day and night that would not otherwise be present in the separated land. Indeed, the energy given off by the Manawall seems to share many of the nourishing properties of sunlight, and provides for the uninterrupted growth of plants and vegetation. The reasons and magic behind this are unknown, but its immense functionality seems to suggest an intelligence and purpose behind its design, rather than simply a consequence of natural energies.
